Attached is a photo of my Bounty launch model, completed in 2006 or so. The scale is 1/24, 1/2"=1". I populated the model with original sculpted figures representing the loyalists set adrift with Bligh, and posed the figures doing activities described in Bligh's journal of his historic open boat voyage. The model shows how crowded the boat really was. Photos of the model are being used on the website of the Pitcairn Island Study Center, in the section on Bligh and the Bounty, and a photo of the model appeared in a recent publication by the National Museum of Australia entitled "In Bligh's Hand". This model, as will all my my future models of small open boats of historical significance, incorporates a white-haired figure representing my late father, a retired railroad worker whose beautiful ship models can be found in the homes of his children. If my future model-making plans come to fruition, he will have sailed with Bligh in the Bounty launch, with Saint Brendan in his Irish ocean-going curragh, with Pitcairn islanders in one of their longboats, with Shackleton in the James Caird, with some adventurous Englishmen who sailed from Cornwall to Australia in a modified coastal fishing boat called the Mystery, and with Lewis and Clark in their riverboat. Bernie,
We have already communicated regarding the James Caird via the ModelShipWorld site, and you sent me some plans. Are you a member of the MVSMC? If so, small world, and I'm looking forward to meeting you in person at one of the meetings.

James, I second Bernie's tip of the hat to your launch, and the idea of having your father honoured in the array of your work. I hope you get a chance to share that with the club at some point. Bernie - great to have you on board. I saw from your linked post that you're from Australia, so may I assume you won't be joining us at the club meetings that often? Perhaps by Skype? Regardless, welcome, and please enjoy the website and message boards. If I may ask, how did you hear about us?

I have the Bounty launch model at home, and could bring it down to a MVSMC meeting sometime.

I think that would be interesting. I seem to be having a lot of conversations lately with guys who are looking to include scale figures on their models.
